Paul has been turning wood since just before the end of the last century and is based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. He is a member of the AWGB, AAW, RPT and Cotswold Craftsmen and he exhibits at a number of their events in and around the Cotswolds. Paul’s turning includes texture, carving, colour and other media in his work. Paul often likes to experiment and uses a wide variety of tools and techniques to expand on the theme. The permutations available to the woodturner of what can be done with wood are almost endless. Paul never runs short of things to experiment with and test.
Paul uses many different species of wood for turning but he prefers to use locally grown wood where possible. He also uses non-native wood for specific applications which has been obtained from managed resources. The main focus is on artistic or creative woodturning. Wood is the material of choice both for its unique characteristics and because of its endless variations in appearance and character. Wood is not only the raw material but also the inspiration for many of the pieces produced.
